Remember the movie “Blue Lagoon”? If you’re like most people, after having seen it, you may have always dreamed of being able to go swimming in a natural swimming hole, beneath a beautiful cascading waterfall. It was such an idillic natural setting and the cool, refreshing water looked so inviting. Well, if you are visiting Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, you can realise that dream. The beautiful rain forest mountains, which soar above this tropical paradise, contain some of the most beautiful waterfalls and natural swimming holes, in the world. The water may not be blue, but the waterfalls are equally as spectacular, and the swimming holes are every bit as refreshing.

The nature walk to the Manuel Antonio Waterfalls is a short easy hike and provides a wonderful natural atmosphere, preparing you for your rewarding adventure. As you approach the waterfall, the sounds of the jungle are suddenly drowned out by the force of the rushing water, as it tumbles over the rocks above, into the cool pool below. Arriving at the Waterfall is an awe inspiring experience. You won’t know whether to immediately jump in, or just stand there, for a few minutes, admiring the natural beauty.

Picture yourself jumping from rock ledges, into the cool natural pools, or just wading and swimming underneath the cascading rush of water, from the natural mountain streams. You’ll want to snap a few “selfies” and send them to your envious family and friends, at home.

You may never want to leave, but all of that fresh air is certain to work up an appetite, and once said good bye to this beautiful setting, you will quickly arrive at the little “restaurant” in the rain forest. There you can quench your thirst and satisfy your appetite with tasty Costa Rican typical dishes, such as “Gallo Pinto” (rice and beans) and delicious sweet fried Plantain, or “platino” as it’s called. Refreshing drinks, such as papaya and, or pineapple smoothies, really hit the spot.
